Kyenkyenku Residents Decry Deplorable Road Conditions, Appeal for Government Intervention

Kyenkyenku Residents

Residents and commuters in Kyenkyenku and surrounding communities in the Eastern Region are expressing deep frustration over the deteriorating condition of the road stretching from Akoase through Abokyikrom.

The affected stretch passes through several towns including Kyenkyenku, Kotiya-Aboa, Hwoa Ye Mobo, and Etwe Nim Nnyansa, and has become nearly impassable due to years of neglect. The poor state of the road is severely hampering transportation, posing serious challenges for drivers, okada riders, farmers, and other residents who depend on it daily.

In response to the worsening situation, locals—led by drivers and community leaders—have taken matters into their own hands, engaging in communal labour to patch and maintain sections of the road. However, residents insist that these temporary fixes are not enough and are calling for a permanent solution from the government.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Kwasi Darko, a local driver, noted that the poor road network is taking a toll on farmers in the area. “Farmers are struggling to transport their produce to markets. Many are suffering losses because vehicles can’t access the farms or get to town in time,” he lamented.

Nana Kofi Amofa, the Adontenhene of Kyenkyenku, also voiced concerns on behalf of the community, urging government authorities to prioritize the construction of the road to ease the burden on residents.

He emphasized that improved infrastructure would significantly enhance economic activities and quality of life for the people of the area.

The community’s appeal serves as a reminder of the broader infrastructural challenges many rural areas in Ghana continue to face—and the urgent need for sustainable development solutions.
