Aboabo: There was no rioting at shooting scene- MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Alidu Seidu says there was no riot at Aboabo when the shooting incident occurred.

According to him, the suspect shot into the air as part of the Eid-Ul-Adha celebrations.

A 16-year-old boy died after he was hit by a stray bullet at Aboabo Number Two in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred shortly after the Islamic prayers to mark Eid ul-Adha on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

Although there was no riot during the celebrations, a group of jubilant youth fired gunshots indiscriminately, and Abdul-Gafar Kassim was hit in the process.

The 16-year-old boy was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival after severe bleeding.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Alhaji Alidu Seidu said, “They said he shot into the sky, there was no riot, there was no misunderstanding or something of the sort which brought about the shooting. There was nothing like that, he just fired the gun as part of the celebration.”

The MCE who confirmed the death of the 16-year-old boy also said another person was also “hit under the eye by the bullet” but was responding to treatment.

He said the other affected one will help the police with investigations as an eye witness when he fully recovers.
