Mahama calls NPP the “Biggest Political scam” in Ghana’s history

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has labeled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the biggest political deception ever inflicted on Ghanaians since the country gained independence in 1957.

Mahama criticized the NPP administration as an old organization that once opposed Ghana’s development and was later repackaged as the nation’s savior.

Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch at the University of Education, Winneba, on Saturday, August 24, Mahama argued that the NPP should never have been entrusted with governance, as it has overseen the collapse of multiple sectors, including the economy and finance.

“This NPP administration is the biggest political scam that has been pulled on Ghanaians since our independence in 1957. They were repackaged with enticing promises, but many Ghanaians now realize that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a president we never truly needed, and his so-called economic expert, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has failed to deliver,” Mahama asserted.

The former president, who is seeking a return to office, also accused the NPP government of mismanaging Ghana’s energy sector.

“The NPP government took over from our administration in January 2017 and inherited an energy sector that we had stabilized with the rapid deployment of nearly 800 megawatts of emergency power—the fastest in Ghana’s history. Additionally, we introduced the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA), which aimed to generate GH¢3 billion annually to address the legacy debt in the energy sector,” Mahama added.
