Mahama Pledges Productivity Revolution With 24-Hour Economy

President John Dramani Mahama says the establishment of the 24-Hour Economy Authority is central to transforming productivity within Ghana’s manufacturing and industrial landscape.

He explained at the Presidential Dialogue with the Private Sector that the policy will enable factories to operate three shifts daily to maximise resources.

President John Dramani Mahama has warned that Ghana’s quest for rapid industrialisation will be undermined if expensive machinery and factory plants are not fully utilised.

He said a shift toward a 24-hour production system would drive higher output, lower unit costs, and enhance the competitiveness of Ghanaian goods at home and abroad, stressing that productivity—rather than stability alone—must define the country’s next economic milestone.

In order to facilitate the shift to a 24-hour production model, President John Dramani Mahama unveiled a set of incentives designed to reduce operating expenses and promote growth. Shift-based assistance, off-peak electricity rates to lower energy costs at night, improved industrial security, and specific tax breaks for machinery and equipment are a few examples.

In order to remove administrative bottlenecks that are impeding industrial expansion, he said the Authority would also work with investment agencies, the Bank of Ghana, and government departments to streamline procedures.

“The Ghana we seek will not be built by rhetoric, It will be built by factories operating at scale; day and night producing for Ghana, Africa and the world.” The President stated.

President John Dramani Mahama said the policy supports Ghana’s role under the African Continental Free Trade Area, adding that 24-hour production would boost exports and regional competitiveness.

He assured businesses of policy certainty and infrastructure support, urging them to invest in expansion and skills upgrading.
