President John Dramani Mahama has achieved 70 percent of the promises he made under his 120-day social contract, according to Political Marketing Lecturer at he University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Benard Tutu Boahen.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s AM Drive with Ekow Budu Sam, Dr. Boahen applauded the President’s performance so far, noting that 19 out of the 28 promises made have been fulfilled within the first four months in office.
“Mahama has done so well. Let’s applaud him. We aren’t made to be perfect. Sometimes, in fulfilling promises, you may question what you should or shouldn’t have done,” he said.
The completed promises include a series of tax reforms, job creation initiatives, efforts to expand digital inclusion, and the strengthening of social protection systems.
Despite the progress, nine key pledges remain at various stages of implementation. These include a review of vehicle taxes, the scrapping of the COVID-19 levy, amendments to the Customs Act of 2020, and the full rollout of the 24-hour economy policy.
Dr. Boahen urged stakeholders to offer support and constructive reminders to the President as he works to complete his agenda.
“Our President might feel he has done all that he promised, but some of us have to put heads together to remind and awaken him, while applauding the many good works he has done so far,” he said.
With 120 days remaining in the initial roadmap, attention is now shifting to how quickly and effectively the government can address the outstanding reforms and maintain public confidence.
