MoH, GMA to enhance consultation on medical drones

The Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), has in a statement, agreed to enhance the consultation on the implementation of drones for medical supply support.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) introduced the use of medical drones to help deliver blood and essential medicines across the country, especially to rural communities.

The project was approved by Parliament on Tuesday, 11 December 2018, after three failed attempts.

Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) who were not pleased by the decision asked government to suspend the proposed drones medical deliveries deal over what they described as inadequate consultation.

Following the issue of inadequate and broader consultations raised by the GMA, the ministry of information has in a statement revealed that the Ministry of Health will from henceforth engage in a process of enhanced consultation with the Ghana Medical Association as well as other stake holders in the implementation of drones for medical supplies project.

The statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Henam Hadzie, stated that the decision was taken at a meeting between the Ministry of Health, Ghana Medical Association and Zipline under the chairmanship of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu (Minister for health), Dr. Nsiah Asare (Director-General, Ghana health Service), Dr. Frank Ankobea (President GMA), Dr. Frank Serebour (Vice President GMA), Dr. Justice Yankson (Secretary GMA), Mr. Daniel Baffour (Zipline )
