The National Communications Authority (NCA) says it is building over 500 new telecom sites across the country this year to address poor network and drop call complaints.

Director-General of the NCA, Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, disclosed this at the Ghana Journalists Association @ 77 Symposium in Accra.

He said the Authority has identified the causes of poor data speed and coverage gaps, and has directed mobile operators to implement remedial measures. These include expanding capacity at existing sites and constructing new ones.

“Several existing sites are also being upgraded. The Authority will continue to monitor implementation and hold operators accountable,” Ing. Fianko said.

He noted that dependable connectivity is essential for inclusion and democracy, adding that a journalist in a rural community must be able to transmit a story as effectively as one in Accra.

Ing. Fianko assured the public that the NCA remains committed to improving electronic communications infrastructure nationwide.
