After his planned surgery on June 13, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana to answer to the Special Prosecutor’s investigation, according to his family.
The family announced that the former minister’s surgery is scheduled for June 13 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, following a biopsy that in March confirmed a confirmed cancer diagnosis.
According to them, Mr. Ofori-Atta had told the OSP about his condition and requested a videotaped interview instead of an in-person meeting, but the request was denied.
Currently under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Mr. Ofori-Atta has been placed on an INTERPOL Red Notice.
His family blamed the OSP in a statement for going beyond its authority and pursuing what they called a “premeditated vendetta” against the former minister.
As a violation of due process, constitutional rights, and international legal norms, they denounced the Red Notice’s release.
The family added that they have officially petitioned the Commission for the Control of Files (CCF) of INTERPOL and Ghana’s National Central Bureau to have the notice taken down immediately.
They contend that falsified evidence and the omission of important medical information served as the foundation for the Red Notice.
