President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Akatsi North District Police Headquarters at Ave-Dakpa in the Volta Region, urging residents to support the Ghana Police Service with credible information to help combat crime.
The President commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in maintaining Ghana’s reputation as one of the safest countries in Africa, describing peace and security as key pillars of the country’s development and attractiveness to investors.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama said the new police headquarters forms part of legacy projects initiated during his previous administration that had remained uncompleted after he left office in 2016.
He encouraged residents of the Akatsi North District to collaborate closely with the police by voluntarily providing timely and reliable information to help tackle armed robbery, drug trafficking and other criminal activities in their communities.
The President also reminded police officers to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties, urging them to respect the rights of citizens and use only reasonable force as permitted by law.
President Mahama stressed that strengthening cooperation between the public and the security services is essential to sustaining peace, improving public safety and promoting national development.
Also addressing the gathering, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, commended the Mahama administration for allocating resources to complete both abandoned legacy projects and new development initiatives across the Volta Region.
The commissioning of the Akatsi North District Police Headquarters is expected to enhance police operations, improve security response and contribute to reducing crime in the district and surrounding communities.
