President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, MP, as the new Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
The nomination forms part of changes to the President’s ministerial team, with the names of the nominees and reassigned ministers submitted to Parliament for approval in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, who is the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, is expected to lead the government’s efforts in environmental protection, scientific development and the promotion of technology if approved by Parliament.
Her nomination places her at the centre of government’s agenda on environmental sustainability, climate-related issues, scientific research and technological development.
She will require parliamentary approval before formally assuming the Environment, Science and Technology portfolio.
Alongside Dr. Zanetor’s nomination, President Mahama has nominated Mahama Ayariga, MP, as Minister-designate for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The President has also announced the reassignment of two serving ministers.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence, where he will replace the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
Dr. Omane Boamah, who served as Defence Minister, died in August 2025 in a military helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of other public officials and military personnel.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The latest changes are expected to strengthen the government’s leadership across the affected ministries as the administration continues to implement its policy programmes.
The nominations have been submitted to Parliament in line with Article 78(1) of the Constitution, and the nominees will be required to undergo the parliamentary approval process before taking up their respective positions.
