Resign to save yourself and govt – Atta Akyea tells Ofori Atta

Samuel Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, has admonished Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to consider resigning from his position to save himself and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Many have called on Ofori-Atta to resign citing the country’s current economic crisis as basis.

The Minority in Parliament has reiterated calls for the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta to resign or be sacked.

The group contends that the Minister’s incompetence has contributed to the economic crisis which has necessitated the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme for $3 billion in support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Minority Caucus filed the vote of censure motion against the Finance Minister, accusing him of mismanagement of the economy, financial recklessness, conflict of interest, and gross mismanagement of the economy.

In an exclusive interview on Citi TV monitored by atinkaonline.com , Atta Akyea said it is his (Ofori Atta) individual decision to make as to whether he should  go or he should continue.

“For me, what is very frightening is the fact that you have a whole army of people saying look you’ve had enough. I think that that could be a way for him to relax. Look at all the burdens on one man. So it is his individual decision to make as to whether he should  go or he should continue.”

“He should look at himself and look at the troubles that everybody believes, I mean when he is not there then the nation will have peace…He should save himself and save the government and have his peace because he needs it,” the lawmaker said in the interview.
