Peaceful

Paul Boateng, a security expert has revealed some key factors in determining peaceful countries around the world.

This is in line with Ghana being ranked the second most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa in the 2022 Global Peace Index (GPI) by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

EIP’s report places Ghana behind Mauritius and followed by The Gambia, Botswana and the rest of least other 39 African countries.
Similarly, Ghana ranked the 40th most peaceful country in the world compared to its 38th position in the last year’s index published IEP.

Afghanistan is the least peaceful country, followed by Yemen, Syria, Russia and South Sudan.
Seven of the ten countries at the top of the GPI are in Europe, and Turkey is the only country in this region to be ranked outside the top half of the index.
The index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness.

Reacting to the 2022 Global Peace Index (GPI) on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with sit-in-host Nana Yaw Fianko (Mr Speaker), Security expert, Paul Boateng, explained that the culture of a country, security, the economy of the country are factors that determine whether or not a country is peaceful.

“Ghanaians are naturally peaceful. For a country to be labeled as peaceful some determining factors include the culture of the people, how secured persons in the country are as well as the economy of the said country,” he added.

Asked whether or not Ghana can overtake Mauritius in the Global Peace Index,  Paul Boateng answered in the negative adding that it is impossible for Ghana to overtake Mauritius in the index.

He advised that it will be appropriate for Ghana to put measures in place to maintain its second position on the index.
