A former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and former Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, says the President lied about the number of roads constructed.

President Akufo-Addo had said his government had amassed the greatest achievement in the road sector in the history of Ghana.

Delivering the 2022 State of the Nation Address on Wednesday, He said his government has constructed some 10,875 kilometres of new roads within the last five years .

“In the five years of my government, so far, more roads have been built, improved and upgraded than at any other equivalent period under any government in the history of Ghana. Some 10,875 kilometres of new roads have been constructed in these five years.”

“Mr Speaker, it is in the road sector that we have registered the greatest infrastructure achievement,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, commissioned the Tamale Interchange, the fourth interchange built by government since 2017.

The interchange forms part of the Government of Ghana – SinoHydro Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) which was launched nearly three years ago by the President.

Commenting on Akufo-Addo’s statement on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini stated that Akufo-Addo keeps extending the Year of roads tagline because he always fails to achieve his target.

According to the former lawmaker, Akufo-Addo is throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians with respect to the Year of Roads agenda.

“When he realizes that the year of roads isn’t possible, he extends the project to the next year. He went to Kumasi to cut the sod for an 800km inner road in Kumasi, have they completed it? In 2019, Bawumia also cut the sod for a 100km inner road in Kumasi, in 2022, Bawumia went to cut another sod for the same 100km inner road in Kumasi. Who are they deceiving?,” he quizzed.
