SOS pupils to benefit from Chinese exchange programme

A delegation from the Mingde Experimental School in Shenzhen, China, has called on the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, to reaffirm a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the School and the Rebecca Foundation for an exchange programme.

The visit was to enable the delegation, led by Dr. Chen Hongbing, Principal of the School, to endorse the MoU signed in November, last year, in China during a visit by the First Lady.

It is expected to promote an exchange programme of pupils from the Experimental School and others from Ghana and to deepen cultural ties between the two countries.

The exchange programme would help deepen cultural relations between the two countries while beneficiary students would benefit from a special scholarship offer from the Rebecca Foundation to study in China.

Under the arrangement, a set of beneficiary Ghanaian students would visit China in November, this year, while some Chinese students would also visit Ghana.

Dr Cheng expressed confidence that the arrangement would be mutually beneficial to the students and the schools in China and Ghana.

Prof. Kwesi Yankah, the Deputy Minister of State in-charge of Tertiary Education, who was on among the First Lady’s delegation to China, expressed his delight on the prospects of the exchange programme.

“If the children are able to understand the cultures of other countries, it would help in broadening their horizon.”

Mr Tetteh Offei, the Director in-charge of SOS Ghana, said the opportunity would enable the students and teachers to better appreciate new trends in teaching as well as the use and application of technology.

Another delegation from the China National Building Materials Equipment Imports and Exports Company Limited, supporters of Ghana’s One District One Factory initiative, also called on the First Lady to brief her on the progress of the initiative.
