“The Union wishes to inform the General public, customers and Users of mobile money that as part of actions to register our total displeasure with the Government’s proposed e-levy of 1.75%, we deem It necessary to embark on an industrial action.
As an Association that implements all Mobile Money policies through our operators, we see this levy as very regressive and critical to the survival of our businesses,” MMAAG stated.

It added that,”Consequently, as part of our demonstration on Thursday December 23,2021, our services as Mobile Money Agents will not be accessible across the country.”

MMAAG stated that all Agents will go on strike hence all outlets will remain closed.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Mr Afful said when the MMAAG issued a statement about their intended demonstration, they were called by the Communications Minister, Madam Ursula Owusu to deliberate on the E-Levy and matters arising.

According to him, they were asked to hold on and wait for a response from the National Executive Council of the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana before they take any drastic decision.

As at the time of granting the interview, he said they were yet to hear from the National Executive Council, urging all agents that until then, the strike still holds.

“The National Executive Council of the Mobile Money Agents Association are yet to finalize on whether to continue with the strike action or not. We also had a discussion with the Greater Accra Police Commander and he made us understand few issues regarding the demonstration. We will make our people aware but one thing that I know for sure is that the strike stands now, so all our members should know that the strike is what it is as at now till the National Executive comes out with the way forward,” he added.
