The appointment of Kojo Choi causes social media controversy

On social media, Kojo Choi’s appointment as South Korea’s ambassador-designate has generated debate, with many people raising doubts about his citizenship and background.

Kojo Choi, who was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of South Korea, is one of eight notable people named Ambassadors and High Commissioners in the most recent list.

Since many people don’t seem to know much about Choi, who is thought to be of Korean descent, his name has caused a great deal of controversy on social media.

On the other hand, a photo of him wearing what appears to be a junior high school uniform has gone viral.

As demonstrated by his Facebook post expressing his love for Ghana and its democratic values, Choi, a Ghanaian by naturalisation, has been devoted to the nation for 33 years.

Citing a statement by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, Choi wrote in his post that he decided to remain in Ghana despite having the option to travel to the US or Korea: “I am not African because I was born in Africa but because Africa was born in me.”

With Choi’s appointment, Ghana’s fourth republic has offered an ambassadorial post to a person of Korean heritage for the first time.
