Ambrose Dery, Minister for Interior, says it is better to have NABCo employees asking to be paid than unemployed graduates association.

Beneficiaries of government’s Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) demonstrated on 17th February 2022 to protest what they call an undue delay in the payment of their allowances.

According to the association an extension of their service period by government has not been followed with the necessary financial commitment as many of them are yet to be paid in the past six months.

Speaking at the Government Townhall meeting on the E-levy proposal in Wa on Monday 21st February 2022, Ambrose Dery, Minister for Interior having unpaid NABCo trainees is better than having an association of unemployed graduates.

“Now you have NABCo people asking to be paid. That is better than having unemployed graduates association. At least, they are paid to look up and we are sure we will pay them,” Ambrose Dery said.

Ambrose Dery also questioned the suggestion by the main opposition NDC for government to return to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial assistance.

“The most offensive one is that we should go to IMF. We went to IMF before. What was the result? High youth unemployment. One of the reasons we are collecting this tax is to provide our boys and girls, sons and daughters, with employment and you say we shouldn’t collect it?,” Ambrose Dery added.

Prior to Townhall meeting in Wa, government had already held similar meetings at Koforidua, Takoradi and Tamale.
