We gave Hughton all the opportunity but his performance was poor – Nana Oduro Sarfo

Nana Oduro Sarfo, a member of the Ghana Football Association Executive Council, has commented on the controversy surrounding the dismissal of Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton.

Chris Hughton was given the support to develop the national team by the GFA, according to him, but his performance was not been remarkable.
Nana Oduro Sarfo made the comments in an interview on Atinka FM’s “Total Sports”.

Chris Hughton’s abysmal performance at the Afcon 2023 tournament  became a talking point  following the Black Stars group stage exit.

The Black Stars manager played seven matches, recorded three wins, two draws, recorded 7 goals scored and nine goals conceded.

Nana Oduro Sarfo said ‘we gave Hughton all the opportunity but his performance was bad’.

He said the FA believed in him when he was given the mantle to take over as the head coach because he was part of the technical team during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers when Otto Addo was the head coach.

“We (GFA) knew Chris Hughton has been with the team and has gotten to know the team very well and that  that is why we gave our support to him” Nana Sarfo stressed.

He emphasized that the Black Stars team was not in good shape but the FA was ready to put things in order and revive the team. .

“We don’t manipulate any Black Star coach; it is just a perception people have” he said
