Yeji: Man, 45, shoots wife dead; reports himself to police

A 45-year-old man, Yaw Muntom has killed his wife, Abena Jayon, 30 at Yeji in the Bono East Region.

According to Police report, on Saturday, 21st August 2021, the suspect who is a farmer had a quarrel with his wife and in the course, went to his room, took his single barrel gun and shot the wife dead.

He then reported himself to the police after committing the heinous crime.

Upon the receipt of the report, the suspect was arrested, handcuffed and together with the police proceeded to the scene of crime at Lele where the suspect led the police to his house and pointed to police the body of his deceased wife lying in a prone position, dead in a pool of blood while the single barrel gun allegedly used to kill her also lying beside the body.

“The body was carefully examined and a gunshot wound was seen on her left shoulder close to her neck. The gun was also inspected where an empty BB cartridge was found in the gun chamber,” the police stated.

Meanwhile, it noted that the body and the scene was photographed and the body was conveyed to the Mathias Catholic Hospital Morgue, Yeji for preservation and autopsy.

The Suspect, Yaw Muntom has however been detained in cells at Yeji to assist with investigation whilst the single barrel gun and the empty BB cartridge was kept at the Police Station for evidential purpose.

The Suspect, Yaw Montom will be arraigned at the Atebubu District magistrate on 23/08/21 to be remanded into police custody to assist with investigation.

en persons died following an accident on the Accra -Takoradi Road on Sunday, August 22, 2021.

According to the Police report, a 33-seater Yutong bus with Registration number, GN 4741-10, which was traveling from Takoradi to Accra upon reaching a spot at Gomoah Manpong on the Winneba junction – Kasoa road, overtook the vehicle in front and in the process collided  with a Kia  Grandbird 48-seater bus with Registration number, GS 6262- 19 which was also traveling from Accra to Elubo.

The Police said the front of the Kia Grandbird bus and the back of the Yutong bus got damaged.

Passengers on both vehicle sustained injuries and were taken to the Truama and Specialist Hospital for treatment but ten of them including the driver of the Kia Grandbird bus, yet  to be  identified were confirmed dead by a medical officer on duty at the Health Facility.
