Eighteen people have been injured after a Mercedes-Benz bus somersaulted on the Tema–Akosombo Highway at Adele-Kpoe in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The accident occurred after the bus, with registration number AS 427-09, reportedly suffered a front tyre burst while travelling from northern Ghana towards Ashaiman.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which subsequently veered off the road and somersaulted.

The Kpong Fire Station of the GNFS responded to a distress call and proceeded to the accident scene to assist the victims.

Upon arrival, firefighters found several occupants injured, with one person trapped inside the wreckage.

The firefighters successfully extricated the trapped victim from the damaged bus.

All 18 injured persons were subsequently conveyed to the Akuse Government Hospital for medical attention.

The GNFS has not reported any fatalities in connection with the incident.

The accident highlights the dangers posed by sudden tyre failures, particularly on major highways, and the importance of regular vehicle checks to ensure roadworthiness.
