Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and 3TREES Ghana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide discounted paint to Ghanaians as part of preparations towards the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary.
Under the Brighten Ghana Initiative, the partners plan to establish paint sales outlets in constituencies across the country to make the products more accessible to communities.
The initiative will offer discounts of between 35 per cent and 55 per cent on selected exterior all-weather paints, subject to approved product specifications.
Sales are expected to run from October 1, 2026, to March 30, 2027, covering the period leading up to Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary on March 6, 2027.
The programme is targeted at individuals, businesses, schools and community organisations involved in painting and maintenance of residential, commercial and public buildings.
As part of the proposed rollout, Members of Parliament are expected to support local mobilisation and assist with efforts to establish outlets in their respective constituencies.
The initiative is also expected to create opportunities for local trade and employment by bringing participating paint products closer to consumers.
UMB is participating in the initiative alongside Strawberry Star and 3TREES Ghana. The bank will serve as the Official Banking Partner and Settlement Bank and is developing a dedicated digital payment platform to support purchases of participating paint products.
Speaking about the initiative, UMB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Philip Oti-Mensah, said the bank’s involvement was part of its commitment to supporting national development beyond traditional banking services.
The organisers said the initiative seeks to combine preparations for Ghana’s 70th anniversary with efforts to improve the appearance and maintenance of homes, businesses, schools and community facilities.
However, the availability of sales outlets in individual constituencies will depend on the progress of the planned rollout.
