President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Judiciary to undertake reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of the justice system and making the courts more accessible to Ghanaians.
According to the President, public confidence in the Judiciary depends not only on the quality of court decisions but also on the conduct of judges, accessibility of the courts and the timely delivery of justice.
He made the call in Accra on Thursday September 10, during the swearing-in ceremony of three new Justices of the Supreme Court.
President Mahama expressed concern about prolonged court cases, avoidable adjournments and delays in delivering judgments, warning that such challenges could erode public confidence in the justice system.
He stressed that delays in the administration of justice could ultimately amount to a denial of justice, particularly for citizens who rely on the courts to resolve disputes and protect their rights.
The President therefore urged the Judiciary to embrace appropriate technology and pursue reforms that would make court processes more efficient and responsive to the needs of the public.
He also called on the Supreme Court to ensure that its judgments are clear, well-reasoned and capable of providing dependable guidance to lower courts, public institutions, legal practitioners and citizens.
President Mahama said a more efficient and accessible justice system was essential to strengthening public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
He expressed confidence that the newly appointed Supreme Court Justices would contribute to strengthening the administration of justice and upholding the rule of law.
