Video: Residents Nearly Lynch Suspected Phone Snatcher After He Falls Off Bike at East Legon

Some Angry residents at East Legon in Accra nearly lynched a suspected phone snatcher after he allegedly attempted to steal a phone near the A&C Mall.

The suspect was reportedly riding pillion on a motorbike with another man, who sped away after the attempted robbery failed.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect missed his target, prompting the victim to push him off the motorbike.

Residents quickly surrounded and attacked him, with some motorists also stopping to join the assault.

A police officer on patrol eventually intervened and helped the suspect into a police pickup. The angry residents, however, reportedly chased the vehicle as it left the scene.

A resident who arrived after the suspect had been taken away told Atinka News’ Ebenezer Madugu that he would have attacked him if he had arrived earlier.

He said he had previously been a victim of phone snatching and had witnessed similar incidents in the area.

Residents say phone snatching has become a major concern in East Legon and other parts of Accra, and are appealing to the security agencies to intensify efforts to stop the menace.

They warned that continued attacks could lead to residents taking the law into their own hands.
