Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor on behalf of the Government of Ghana has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Eni Ghana, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd (Vitol) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to advance exploration activities in two offshore acreages in the Tano Basin.
The agreements cover the offshore blocks GH WB 3 and GH WB 8 and are expected to support efforts to revitalise oil and gas exploration and production in Ghana.
Hon Abdulai Jinapor, who announced the development, said the agreements mark a significant step towards unlocking the country’s hydrocarbon potential.
According to him, the agreements form part of broader upstream reforms being implemented by the government under President John Dramani Mahama to strengthen Ghana’s petroleum sector and create a more competitive and predictable environment for investors.
Mr Jinapor said the government’s reforms are aimed at attracting fresh investment into the upstream petroleum industry while improving exploration and production activities.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to responsible exploration and production, as well as the effective management of Ghana’s petroleum resources.
He said the government would continue to pursue policies that ensure the country’s natural resources contribute to sustainable national development and deliver tangible benefits to Ghanaians.
The latest agreements come as the government seeks to revitalise Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector and maximise the potential of the country’s offshore resources.
