2028 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has met with the national leadership of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA), the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association (FGMSA), and presidents of medical students’ associations across the country to discuss challenges confronting young medical professionals.
The engagement forms part of Dr. Bawumia’s broader efforts to interact with professionals and stakeholders on issues of national importance, particularly the future of Ghana’s healthcare sector.
The engagement focused on critical issues affecting medical education and professional development, including training, welfare, career progression and the broader working environment for young doctors and medical students.
Dr. Bawumia during the discussion stressed the importance of listening to the concerns of young medical professionals, describing them as a critical component of the future of Ghana’s healthcare system.
According to him, the challenges confronting medical students and young doctors must receive sustained attention to ensure that Ghana continues to produce well-trained and motivated healthcare professionals.
He noted that the next generation of doctors will carry significant responsibility for the delivery of healthcare across the country and, therefore, their concerns must be incorporated into discussions on healthcare policy and reform.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the representatives of the various medical associations to share their experiences and concerns, particularly those relating to training opportunities, professional welfare and pathways for career advancement.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment to engaging key stakeholders and gathering practical perspectives to inform policies aimed at improving Ghana’s healthcare system.
He said continuous consultation with professionals, students and other stakeholders remains essential to developing responsive policies and improving healthcare delivery nationwide.
