The Bishop’s Deputy for the Ashanti Region of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. Dr Seth F. Coleman, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to assent to the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, saying the legislation is necessary to safeguard Ghana’s cultural values and traditions.
Speaking to journalists at the climax of the Kumasi District Annual Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church in Nkoranza, Atwima Kwanwoma District, Rev. Dr Coleman argued that LGBTQ practices are inconsistent with Ghanaian cultural and moral values.
He urged the President to approve the bill and called on all stakeholders to support efforts to preserve what he described as the country’s cherished traditions.
According to him, collective action is needed to protect Ghana’s cultural identity and ensure that societal values are upheld.
The annual conference brought together clergy, church leaders and members of the A.M.E. Zion Church from across the Kumasi District to discuss issues relating to spiritual growth, church development and social concerns affecting the nation.
Also addressing the gathering, the Kumasi District Presiding Elder of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Rev. John Wiafe, encouraged ministers of the Gospel to remain committed to their calling and continue serving both the Church and their communities with dedication and integrity.
He urged fellow clergy to stay focused on their mission and avoid distractions that could hinder their work in advancing the Church’s ministry and supporting national development.
