The New Patriotic Party (NPP) stands at a critical juncture as it seeks to rebuild its structures, restore confidence among its grassroots and position itself for victory in the 2028 general elections.
According to a researcher, the party’s rebuilding process requires clear strategic direction, strong leadership and a unifying figure capable of bringing the various interests within the party together.
In a write-up titled “The Vision Is Clear: Why Boakye Agyarko Is the Sure Choice to Rebuild the NPP,” the researcher makes a strong case for the candidature of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko as the next National Chairman of the party.
He said Agyarko’s recent interview on Asempa 94.7 FM’s Ekosii Sen offered an insight into his leadership philosophy and vision for the NPP.
He argued that Agyarko’s message was not built around insults or empty political slogans but focused on what he described as a practical blueprint for rebuilding the party.
According to him, Agyarko’s vision is anchored on strategy, unity, resource mobilisation, grassroots empowerment and institutional strengthening.

He believes Agyarko has demonstrated a clear understanding of what the office of National Chairman entails.

For Dr. Tutu Boahen, the position requires more than political activism. He believes the NPP needs a chairman who can provide calm, mature and visionary leadership while bringing together the different interests within the party.
He argues that Agyarko’s temperament, experience and extensive networks could help attract the financial, material and human resources required to strengthen the party and make it more effective at all levels.
He further describes Agyarko as an alternative to what he considers abrasive and divisive politics, stressing the need for a leader capable of restoring confidence and promoting unity.
A Record Built on Party Organisation and Public Service
He also points to Agyarko’s long association with Ghanaian politics and the Danquah-Busia political tradition.
He highlights Agyarko’s involvement in political activities dating back to the 1970s, his role as founding chairman of NPP North America and his contribution to the establishment of NPP branches in Europe.
According to him, these experiences demonstrate Agyarko’s ability to build political structures, organise people and mobilise support beyond Ghana’s borders.
He also identifies Agyarko’s professional background in international banking and corporate management as another major strength.
The researcher cites Agyarko’s reported 23-year career as a Vice President at the Bank of New York, arguing that such experience could help introduce stronger institutional and corporate management practices into the administration of the NPP.
He believes the party requires a chairman who can combine political experience with professional competence to build a modern, efficient and financially sustainable organisation.
A Practical Roadmap to 2028
At the centre of Agyarko’s campaign, according to the researcher, is a clear objective — rebuilding the NPP into a formidable electoral force capable of returning to power in 2028.
Agyarko has expressed confidence that the party can win the 2028 election under the leadership of its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He says the proposed approach revolves around three major areas: strategy, resource mobilisation and empowerment.
Rather than relying on rhetoric, he says Agyarko intends to strengthen the party’s strategic capacity and mobilise the resources necessary to execute its programmes.
He also places emphasis on empowering party officers from the polling-station level to the national leadership.
A Verifiable Membership Database
Another key component of Agyarko’s rebuilding agenda is the proposed creation of what his supporters describe as the biggest verifiable membership database in the history of the NPP.
