Laryea Kingston has written his name into East African football history after becoming the first Ghanaian coach to qualify Uganda’s U17 national team for a major international tournament.
The former Ghana U17 coach achieved the landmark by steering the Uganda Cubs to the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations following an impressive performance in the CECAFA U17 Qualifiers.
Kingston sealed the historic qualification with a dominant 3–0 victory over Ethiopia in the semi-finals— a result that confirmed Uganda’s place at next year’s continental tournament in Morocco.
The achievement crowns a remarkable start to Kingston’s tenure. Earlier in the campaign, his team produced emphatic victories, including a 4–0 win over Burundi and a 9–0 demolition of Sudan, showcasing the tactical discipline and attacking flair he has instilled in the young side.
Uganda will now prepare for the continental stage as Kingston continues to build what many believe could be one of the most exciting youth teams in the country’s history.
The Director-General of the Private Security Organizations Directorate (PSOD) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Daniel Afriyie, has disclosed that only 200 out of 700 registered private security companies in Ghana are currently in good standing.
Speaking at the PSOD Stakeholders Engagement Meeting in Accra, COP Afriyie revealed that many private security firms have failed to provide accurate, credible, and up-to-date information required for effective monitoring and inspection. Some companies, he noted, continue to operate with expired licences, while others submit unreliable data that hampers regulatory oversight.
According to COP Afriyie, the engagement meeting was crucial to updating security records, enhancing the national security database, and improving the GPS Address System for private security operations.
Role of Private Security and Regulatory Lapses
Private security companies provide vital employment opportunities, particularly for the youth, and help reduce unemployment. However, COP Afriyie emphasized that the industry continues to face persistent challenges, including poor compliance with regulations and improper use of security gadgets.
He highlighted the essential role private security firms play in complementing state security agencies, especially during high-demand periods such as the Christmas season and other end-of-year festivities. These companies support law enforcement by providing physical security, surveillance, and risk management.
Despite their importance, he expressed concern over inaccurate registration details, including wrong telephone numbers, which impede emergency response efforts. He urged the Ministry of the Interior to make GPS addresses mandatory for registration and renewal to enhance accountability.
Warnings on Weapon Use and Gadgets
COP Afriyie issued a firm caution against the misuse of weapons and restricted gadgets by private security officers. He reiterated that:
-Private security personnel are not permitted to use firearms.
-Private security companies cannot license firearms for their operations.
-Use of blue lights and sirens on vehicles is strictly prohibited unless approved by the Ministry of the Interior.
He reminded operators that LI 1571, the law governing private security operations, grants authorities the power to sanction or withdraw licences from firms that breach regulations. The Ministry of the Interior is also developing a new code of conduct to promote professionalism and efficiency in the sector.
He further stressed that all private security personnel must be vetted before recruitment to prevent individuals with criminal backgrounds from entering the system. Only state security agencies are permitted by law to use sirens on their vehicles, with private entities requiring DVLA-approved exemptions.
Stakeholders React
Dr. Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman Usunaba Dsi, National Chairman of the Association of Private Security Organizations, Ghana, acknowledged concerns about the unlawful use of weapons by some personnel. He noted that the association is engaging the sector minister to address these issues.
A representative from the Ministry of the Interior also hinted that a new regulatory framework is being developed to address long-standing challenges within the private security industry.
Calls for Support and Training
Her Royal Highness Brenda Bonsu, CEO of Save Africa Security and President of the Private Security Owners Association of Ghana (PSOAG), called on the Interior Ministry to collaborate more closely with private security employers.
She advocated for:
-Short security courses for guards
-Regular training seminars
-Daily security briefings from experts
-Upgraded skills to meet modern security demands
She also expressed concern over how some government agencies treat private security providers despite their contributions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. She urged government to formally recognize and support private security companies, including Safe Africa Security, to strengthen national security.
Bonsu commended the new leadership at the Ministry of the Interior for its efforts to curb crime and improve security nationwide.

The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan Mensah, has announced the government’s plan to add 1,400 megawatts (MW) of modern renewable energy to Ghana’s power mix. The initiative aims to complement the country’s existing 5,700MW of grid capacity and further reinforce the stability currently enjoyed in the energy sector.
He disclosed this during the commissioning of an 859 kilowatt-peak (kWp) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power station for Sintex Ghana Limited in Tema.
859kWp Solar Plant Commissioned
The newly installed solar system—expected to supply close to 1 megawatt of clean energy—was developed for Sintex Ghana, producers of polytanks and PVC pipes. The project was executed by SolPower Company Limited in partnership with Valtek Corporation, a Ghanaian-owned renewable energy firm.
This installation forms part of a broader collaboration between private entities and the government to deliver the planned 1,400MW renewable energy hub at the Dawa Industrial Enclave, which is expected to power industries within the zone.
Sintex Ghana Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Karan Budhrani, Director of Sintex Ghana, said the project underscores the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible industrial operations. Professor James Oppong-Kyekyeku of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has praised Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL) for its outstanding contribution to Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry and the national economy.
Speaking in an interview with Bernard Lav on Atinka TV following TPL’s win as Best Company – Pharmaceuticals Sector at the 14th Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) Industry & Quality Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Prof. Oppong-Kyekyeku said Tobinco’s recognition was well-deserved.
According to him, the pharmaceutical sector has the potential to create substantial employment opportunities because of its wide value chain — from raw material production through manufacturing, sales, and exports. He urged Government to invest more strategically in the industry to unlock these economic benefits.
Prof. Oppong-Kyekyeku also emphasized the need for increased funding for research, noting that Ghana possesses a wealth of herbs and natural materials that can be transformed into high-value pharmaceutical products if research efforts are strengthened.
He further called on the Government to consider expanding tax incentives for local pharmaceutical companies to help them scale up and remain competitive.
The AGI awards celebrate Ghanaian companies that demonstrate excellence in production, quality, and innovation across various industrial sectors.
A strong wave of support is building for New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the Assin South District, where chiefs, former District Chief Executives, and a sizeable group of party delegates have publicly endorsed his bid.
At a press conference in Assin Darmang, the group praised Agyapong’s “resilience, patriotism, and contribution to national development,” arguing that the NPP needs more than a flagbearer — it needs a leader with broad national appeal and the strength to deliver victory in the 2028 general elections.
Supporters also referenced the party’s defeat in the 2024 polls, attributing the loss to leadership under former flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They asserted that Agyapong represents the party’s best chance to rebuild confidence at the grassroots and reposition the NPP for a comeback.
Supporters Deny Claims of Attack
The group dismissed reports alleging that supporters of Kennedy Agyapong assaulted Deputy Education Minister Rev. Ntim Fordjour during Dr. Bawumia’s meeting with delegates in Assin Fosu on November 19. They called on Rev. Fordjour to publicly clarify the incident and issue an apology to Agyapong if the reports were inaccurate.
Growing Internal Divisions
The public show of support highlights the intensifying internal contest within the NPP as the party prepares for its next flagbearer election. Agyapong’s strong backing in the Central Region signals shifting dynamics as various factions position themselves ahead of the race.
Traditional Leaders Urged to Offer Support
During the event, the Akyeamehene of Assin Darmang, Nana Yaw Bio, encouraged traditional authorities in the area to offer spiritual support for Kennedy Agyapong through traditional prayers and libation. He expressed optimism that Agyapong could lead both the NPP and the country toward renewed progress.

In a light moment during her interview on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge with Afia Adepa, Lumba family lawyer, Fati Ali-Yallah Esq. brushed off social media jokes and criticisms about her courtroom appearance—especially comments claiming her shoes cost only 2 cedis.
Responding with humour, she clarified that her footwear is far from cheap.
“This is my beautiful designer shoe. I bought it from abroad,” she said, smiling on phone.
Fati Ali-Yallah added that the heavy public scrutiny surrounding the Daddy Lumba spouse case has brought all kinds of commentary, but none of it distracts her from the work.
“We all collected our insults in this case, but I am not moved by distractions. It’s funny, but it doesn’t shake me,”- she noted.
Her confident response has since sparked reactions online, with many applauding her for maintaining composure amid the ongoing legal tensions.
Daddy Lumba’s Lawyer, who doubles as the Lawyer for the Abusua Panyin of the Fosu family, Fati Ali-Yallah Esq., has issued a firm response to news that Akosua Serwaa may appeal the Kumasi High Court ruling recognizing both her and Priscilla Ofori Atta (Odo Broni) as surviving spouses of the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge with Afia Adepa, Lawyer Fati Ali-Yallah stated that the family is fully prepared for any legal challenge.
“She can go for an appeal—she has the right. But we will meet them in court again with the same facts that defeated them,” she stressed.
He argued that the evidence presented by Akosua Serwaa during the initial trial was fundamentally weak, especially her inability to provide a properly certified marriage certificate. He noted that the family is confident because the key issues—flawed documentation and an incomplete traditional divorce process—remain unchanged.
“We didn’t start this; we only replied to what she wrote to us,” he added, emphasizing that the family remains calm and professional despite the ongoing tensions.
Ali-Yallah reiterated that the court has affirmed both women as wives, and any attempt to overturn that ruling will face strong resistance backed by the same legal grounds that won the initial case.
