"Akyem Sakawa Mafia" comment unfortunate – Isaac Brako

Political Science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Isaac Brako has described the Akyem Sakawa Mafia comment as unfortunate.

This statement comes after the former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama  shared a post by Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo describing people in the NPP government  as ‘Akyem Sakawa Mafias’ who are looting the state.

The comments did not go well with the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has asked the Former President to apologize to Akufo Addo and the NPP.

Reacting to the statement on Atinka FM’s A M Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Political Science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Isaac Brako said tribal suggestive comments do not usually go down well with people.

According to him, a tribe is part of the things a person cannot choose at birth and that it is usually not appropriate to pass derogatory comments about tribes.

“It’s usually difficult for one to forgive you when you make derogatory comments about a person’s tribe. This is because among all the things one can choose to belong to or otherwise, a tribe is not part. You cannot tell God to change your tribe or family for you. No. and so comments like that usually hurt”, he added.

He explained that the story would have been different if the statement was made without mentioning any tribe.

He called on Politicians to be cautious when presenting speeches on podiums considering the fact that the country goes to the polls in December.

Meanwhile, The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor says the party will not apologize for the Akyem Sakawa Mafias” comment.
