Alleged national security operative pulls gun tanker drivers

A national security person at the Tema Oil Refinery allegedly pulled a gun on tanker drivers who were demonstrating over their conditions of service.

Members of the Ghana Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union began a sit-down strike on Monday over non-payment of salaries and what the described as “underground shortage” which is deducted from the driver's account.

The demonstrators attempted to prevent a tanker from entering the loading gantry and load, an action which compelled the national security operative to act. He then pulled a gun from his vehicle and walked straight to the crowd in an attempt to ward them off.

However, his actions angered the demonstrators who attempted to disarm the security operative; the confrontation resulted in chaos, prompting some security personnel and TOR officials to intervene.
