The Ashaiman District Police Command has intensified efforts to promote public safety by embarking on a sensitisation campaign in schools across the municipality to educate pupils on safety measures during the ongoing rainy season.
The initiative, led by the Ashaiman District Police Commander, DSP Orlando Joseph Adaokpa, forms part of the Ghana Police Service’s proactive response to the persistent rains and flooding affecting parts of Ashaiman and the Greater Accra Region.
As part of the exercise, the Police Commander and his team visited several public and private schools, including Ashaiman Islamic Basic School and Ashaiman Basic Schools Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4, where they engaged pupils on how to stay safe before, during, and after heavy rainfall.
The officers advised the children to avoid walking or playing in floodwaters, stay away from open drains, gutters, and fast-flowing streams, and seek shelter whenever heavy rains occur. Pupils were also encouraged to obey instructions from parents, teachers, and emergency responders and to promptly report any dangerous situations to the appropriate authorities.
According to the Police Command, the sensitisation campaign is aimed at reducing the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities associated with flooding, particularly among schoolchildren who are often vulnerable during the rainy season.
As part of the exercise, the team also visited the flooded Ashaiman underpass on the Adjei-Kojo Road to assess conditions on the ground. Motorists and pedestrians using the stretch were advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid attempting to cross floodwaters whenever conditions become unsafe.
The Ashaiman District Police Command has reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged residents to remain vigilant, heed weather advisories, and cooperate with emergency responders as efforts continue to minimise the impact of flooding across the municipality.
