Aspiring MP for Assin South Constituency arrested over unauthorised campaign

The aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South Constituency, Mr Kofi Damte has been arrested by the Central Regional Police Command for organising a political campaign rally without informing the police.
He was also arrested for not observing the safety protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), which according to the police is contrary to provisions of the Public Order, Criminal and other offences as well as Imposition of Restrictions laws.
In  statement, the police said on 06/07/2020, the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command received information that suspect Joseph Kofi Damte had organised a political campaign rally at Assin Aworoso in the Assin South Constituency.

When the police got to the scene, they realised that the independent candidate had left.

Meanwhile, it has noted that the Central Regional CID has taken over the case for investigation into the matter whiles the suspect is in police custody assisting investigations.
