The Atwima Mponua District Anti-Galamsey Taskforce has destroyed more than 50 pieces of equipment allegedly used for illegal mining along the River Offin.

The operation took place at the Adiembra and Nantiedi stretches of the river as part of efforts to protect the water body and its surrounding environment.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, commended the taskforce for its efforts and said the district would continue to strengthen monitoring and enforcement against illegal mining.

He urged residents, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to support the fight to protect the River Offin and other natural resources.

The DCE stressed that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility and called on residents to help safeguard the district’s water bodies for future generations.
