The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North and Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defense and Interior, Collins Owusu Amankwa, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind the recent armed robbery attacks in the country.
Among the notable armed robbery attacks in recent times is the one involving the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Ekow Quansah Hayford, who was attacked and murdered in the Central Region by unknown assailants.
Citing reasons for his accusation in an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Ekourba Gyasi, Collins Owusu Amankwa said the recent outburst by General Secretary for the NDC, Aseidu Nketia, points to the fact that the NDC is not perturbed with the recent happenings.
He added that the leaked tape of the NDC National Chairman, Mr Ofosu Ampofo, is also a clear indication that the NDC orchestrated the recent attacks.
In 2019, Mr Ofosu Ampofo was secretly recorded allegedly outlining plans to cause mayhem.
In the audio, Mr Ofosu Ampofo is allegedly heard inciting party communicators to assault public officials and plotting to harm some other civilians, allegations he fervently denied.
After the audio went viral, the leaders of the opposition NDC who described the tape as maliciously depraved, added that it has been doctored by some devious elements in the NPP and government to undermine the NDC and its National Chairman.
“ It appears that the NDC is happy about the current robbery incidents in the country. The statements by Aseidu Nketia and Chairman Ofosu Ampofo, aside other happenings clearly show they are involved. Even the number of votes the NDC garnered in the prisons show how the NDC as a party is involved in wrongdoings”, he added.
