‘Beard gang’ men accumulating more germs in their hair than dog furs-Research

A new study has found that heavy facial hair of men may contain more gems than the fur of dogs, prompting questions of whether men should sacrifice beauty for health.

Researchers at Switzerland's Hirslanden Clinic say they have found more bacteria generally in the beards of men than on the fur of dogs.

The study, according Ghanacelebrities.com, compared strands of bacteria found in men’s facial hair to that taken from the fur of dogs.

It was conducted on 18 men, an admittedly small sample, and 30 breeds of dogs and was designed to find out if men could pick up bacteria from dogs if they used the same Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at a veterinarian.

The study found all the 18 men who partook as subjects had high microbial counts.

7 men were also found to have bacteria extremely harmful to man. In the opposite, only 23 of the 32 dogs had high microbial count, an insignificant figure compared to that of the men.

The researchers also found that the MRI had more germs after the men used it than after the dogs used it.

Hirslanden's Prof Andreas Guzeit was quoted that, “The researchers found a significantly higher bacterial load in specimens taken from the men’s beards compared with the dogs’ fur." “On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered as clean compared with bearded men.”

However, one may ask those who joined the beard gang if it is really healthy to keep a full grown beard.
