A former drug addict and now a recovery ambassador Daniel Eshun has attributed his involvement in drug abuse at a young age to growing up in a broken home and the absence of a strong father figure in his life.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka TV’s Morning Show, Ghana Nie, during the Lifestyle segment hosted by Ekow Budu Sam, Daniel Eshun opened up about his difficult childhood and how it influenced his journey into substance abuse.
According to him, the lack of fatherly guidance and support created an emotional gap that contributed to the challenges he faced while growing up.
“Growing up in a broken home without the support and guidance of a father figure affected me deeply and contributed to my involvement in drugs,” he said.
Daniel explained that children need love, attention, guidance and support from their parents and guardians, particularly during their formative years.
He said the absence of proper parental supervision can leave young people vulnerable to negative influences from friends and other people around them.
“When there is no father figure to guide and correct you, you can easily look elsewhere for acceptance and guidance, and sometimes the people you turn to may lead you in the wrong direction,” he stated.
Daniel Eshun, who now works as a Recovery Ambassador, said his personal experience has motivated him to speak openly about substance abuse and encourage young people to make positive choices.
He urged parents to create an environment where children can freely discuss their challenges and seek guidance without fear.
He also appealed to families and society to support people struggling with addiction, stressing that with the right support, commitment and determination, recovery is possible.
