Changed duplicate ID numbers will not affect filed nomination forms – EC

Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, has assured candidates that nomination forms with ID numbers belonging to supporters, whose numbers were changed due to duplication in the EC’s data base after endorsing nomination forms of their preferred candidates, still remain valid.

The General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Aseidu Nketia in Wednesday 7th October 2020, filed the nomination forms on behalf of the party’s Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

Aseidu Nketia, who was late in submitting the nomination forms of his party’s flagbearer, attributed his lateness to the  change of ID numbers of people who had already endorsed the nomination forms of the flagbearer.

The Electoral Commission (EC) faced issues such as duplicate names and ID numbers during the voter exhibition exercise which caused a change in voter ID numbers of some of the people who have endorsed the nomination forms of some Presidential Candidates.

Reacting to the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, said the change in numbers will not affect the filed nomination forms since the EC had retrieved all duplicate numbers and had updated its database.

According to Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, every registered voter was given an ID card  and so the mere evidence that the voter endorsed a candidate with an ID Card number is enough.

“ The numbers presented to persons whose ID cards had been duplicated in the voter exhibition exercise will not affect the nomination forms of candidates they had already endorsed. Every registered voter has an ID card and so as long as the person registered this shouldn’t be a problem.

He added that the issue of duplication is neither the fault of the EC nor the voter.

Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe said supporters of the candidate also have the right to submit the nomination forms on behalf of their candidate.
