Driver of ambulance conveying woman in labour shot by armed men

A driver of an ambulance conveying a pregnant woman from the Akuse Government Hospital to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua has been shot after unknown armed men attacked the ambulance.

Atinka News’ Eastern regional Reporter, Maame Akosua, reported that the driver is currently battling for his life at the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital after sustaining head wounds as a result of the attack.

According to Maame Akosua, the incident occurred on Thursday 4th February 2021 on the Somanya-Adukrom road after the driver in charge of Yilo Krobo Constituency Ambulance with registration Number GV 644-20 bumped into a robbery attack.

She explained that the driver who had been assigned to convey a woman in labour to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua did not know that armed men had gathered on Somanya-Adukrom road ready to attack drivers plying the route.

Luck evaded the driver who tried to speed off after bumping into the robbery operation on the road while speeding and failed to stop.

The armed robbers opened fire on the Ambulance shooting the driver in the head.

The injured driver and the woman are both on admission at the Tetteh Quashie Memorial Hospital in Accra.

Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sergeant Francis Gomado says the command is yet to make an arrest.
