Assembly Member for Nyame Fie, a Community near Drobo in the Jaman South District of the Bono Region, Mr Dominic Nketia says all 27 persons who sustained gunshot wounds at the one week celebration of their Queen Mother’s late mother are responding to treatment.

This is in contradiction with earlier reports that three persons out of the 27 who sustained gunshot wounds had died .

It was reported that one self-acclaimed Chief of the town, Nana Attah, fired 18 rounds of bullets on Drobo youths on Thursday 7 October while the one week observation of the Queen Mother’s Mother was ongoing.

According to reports, the 18 bullets the self-proclaimed chief fired, touched 27 persons on Thursday but three couldn’t survive as they were pronounced dead this morning.

The three who have been identified as Nhyiraba Kingsley, Kwame Ababio and Gyan Asamoah are all members of the Drobo Youth for Peace; a group of youthful natives who have been promoting peace after the death of the King of Drobo Traditional Area in 2018.

The death of the then king of Drobo caused the enstoolment of one Kwesi Yeboah Duah as the new Chief of Drobo, who was sworn into office in year January 2020. The swearing-in of the new Chief, Kwesi Yeboah Duah forced the self-proclaimed chief, Gideon Anthony Yeboah, to enstool himself as a chief also in July 2021.

This is the genesis of the rift between the real chief and the self-proclaimed chief which lead to the death of three people.

But Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Mr Dominic Nketia said all 27 were doing well at the St. Mary’s Hospital when he visited.

Meanwhile, he said he was informed that the police had invited the suspect over the issue.

When asked who was taking care of the bills of the victims, Mr Dominic Nketia said the Queen mother paid the bills for some of the victims while others took care of their bills.

He was alarmed that something worse could happen at the main funeral of the late Queen Mother’s Mother, but expressed hope that the police will be in charge of the funeral to ensure peace since the matter has been reported to them.

However, he said peace had been restored amongst the youth after the incident, saying that the youth were depending on the police and the court for swift justice.
