Dumsor: We’ve kept our promise, we’ve kept the lights on- Akufo -Addo

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo says the NPP-Government has kept its promise by keeping the lights on despite challenges in the Energy Sector and the debt it inherited.

He said this while delivering the 2022 State of the Nations Address on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday 30th March 2022.

“We have kept to our promise and kept the lights on in spite of the obstacles in the Energy Sector and in spite of the huge legacy debt we inherited,” he said.

President Akufo Addo continued that,”We have almost completed the process of re-structuring these debts to reduce the crippling effects on our public expenditure.

With the introduction of more bulk supply points, in the areas of Kasoa and Pokuase, power transmission has improved tremendously in the South Western and North Western parts of Greater Accra.

He said power lines are being upgraded to reduce technical and commercial loses and to increase transmission capacity.

He noted that a total of 279 communities have been connected to the National Grid, saying this has increased the national electricity access rate from 85.7 per cent to in 2022 to 87.3 per cent as at January 2022.

He assured that 487 more communities are at various stages of connection and completion, adding that, “We are on course to achieve our ambition of universal access to electricity by the end of my term as a President of this country.”
