President Akufo-Addo has revealed that commissioning the Tamale interchange was the most satisfying Birthday present he received yesterday.
On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, his birthday, Akufo Addo inaugurated the first Tamale Interchange in the Northern region.
The 1.7 kilometre-interchange which construction begun in 2019, is part of the $2 billion Sinohydro Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between the government of Ghana and the Peoples Republic of China through the Sinohydro Corporation.
Commenting on the project during the 2022 State Of the Nation Address on the floor of Parliament, President Akufo-Addo mentioned that that commissioning the Tamale interchange was the most satisfying Birthday present he received yesterday.
He mentioned that Some ten thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five (10,875) kilometers of new roads have been constructed in these five (5) years.
“I know that the word “unprecedented” is often used with careless abandon in our public discourse, but I use it carefully and purposefully. It is in the road sector that we have registered the greatest infrastructure achievement.”

“Let me mention that yesterday, it was my honour and great pleasure to have commissioned the Tamale Interchange, the first such interchange in the northern sector of our country, which the people of Tamale celebrated.”
“I considered it to be a most satisfying birthday present. We intend to continue with the building of roads around the country to accelerate the opening up of our country,” Akufo Addo said on the floor of Parliament.
