President John Dramani Mahama has declared that accountability and the fight against corruption will be the hallmark of his administration, stressing that no public official who misuses state resources will be protected from the law.
Speaking during his Resetting Ghana tour of the Volta Region, the President told chiefs, queen mothers, students, government officials, political leaders and residents that the overwhelming mandate entrusted to him by Ghanaians comes with a responsibility to govern with honesty, transparency and accountability.
Addressing the gathering at the G.M. Afeti Hall of Ho Technical University, President Mahama said his nationwide engagements are intended to keep him directly accountable to the people and to provide updates on his government’s development agenda.
He emphasized that all public officials must be held accountable for the management of state resources, warning that anyone found to have abused public funds would face the full force of the law.
According to the President, investigations by anti-corruption and other state institutions are guided by evidence and due process, not political considerations.
He explained that individuals who are invited for questioning, investigated or prosecuted undergo the appropriate legal procedures and should not expect political protection.
President Mahama also issued a strong warning to his own ministers, political appointees and government officials, stating that the same anti-corruption standards applied to officials of previous administrations would equally apply to members of his government.
He stressed that there would be no favouritism for any appointee who violates the law or betrays the public trust.
“The same cutlass used to clear the wrongdoing of others will also be used to clear wrongdoing within this administration,” the President declared.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building what he described as a “one-term performance administration”, focused on fulfilling campaign promises, strengthening public confidence in governance, and promoting integrity, discipline and responsible leadership.
The engagement formed part of President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana tour of the Volta Region, where he met traditional authorities, students, political stakeholders and residents to discuss government policies and development initiatives.
