The Director of Communications at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Gilbert Ankrah has once again begged the public to stop dumping refuse into drains.

He observed that in as much as they have warned the public against the act, people continue to pour refuse into drains especially when it rains.

The situation, he said has contributed to the perennial flooding in the Southern part of Ghana.

Parts of Greater Accra have experienced serious floods since it began raining.

Recently, it has been noticed that even after a brief downpour, most areas, including the N1, the Tema motorway, Kasoa road, Kaneshie and parts of the Accra- Nsawam road experienced severe floods.

The trend has become alarming since people continue to loose their belonging to the floods.

Speaking on Atinka TV‘s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Mr Gilbert Ankrah said just three days ago at Gamashie, they caught a man dumping his refuse into the drains.

He therefore appealed to people to stop dropping refuse into drains, adding that we all have roles to play as citizens.

“We have a responsibility to play as citizens. Why would you dump rubbish into drains? It does not help. Come to where we are desilting the drains, there are plastics all over, people have dumped refuse into the drains and we are continuously letting people understand that we beg them. With where we have gotten to, if they do not help us, it will worry us,” he said.

Mr Gilbert Ankrah also urged all to stop giving their refuse to ‘junkies’ because they sometimes end up dropping the refuse at un-authorised places.
