Food supply improved under my watch- Afriyie Akoto

Minster Designate for Food and Agriculture,  Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, says the supply of food improved considerably under his watch as the Minister for Agriculture.

Afriyie Akoto is being vetted to occupy the Seat as Minister for Food and Agriculture for the second time.

Speaking to the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday 19th February 2021,   Afriyie Akoto, noted that making comparison with the last 10 or 5 years, it is evident that the supply of food has improved under his watch.

“In every society, even when you go to the United States or UK, there are people still sleeping outside on the pavements. We are talking about the generality of improvements in the lives of the people of this country and not specifically about a few people. The comparison we are making is about what things are like now and what they were like 10 or five years ago. I am very confident that the supply of food in Ghana has improved considerably under my watch,” he added.

Asked reasons for the decline in Ghana’s Agriculture sector to the GDP, Afriyie Akoto explained that as a growing economy the decline was expected.

According to him, with all the plans government has put in place, it is expected that the share of agriculture will continue to fall while other sectors like manufacturing, tourism and banking continue to go up.
