Ghana to roll out Covid -19 vaccines in March

The Government of Ghana has announced a roll out programme for COVID -19 vaccines in March, 2021.

According to the Ministry of Health, the vaccination will be deployed  in three phases that would  target   population groups starting with health workers, security agencies, government officials, journalists and the general public.

Ghana is among 145 counties listed to receive vaccines from a number of suppliers through the COVAX Facility according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The country is earmarked to take delivery of 2.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which is licensed to the Serum Institute of India .

Speaking at a public engagement forum on the roll out plan of the vaccine, Programmes Manager on the expanded programme on Immunization at the Ghana Health Service Dr.  Kwame Amposa- Achiano noted that the vaccine will protect the citizenry against harmful diseases and also build their immune system in fighting against the COVID -19 pandemic.

He further indicated that about three million lives have been  saved through  the vaccine around the world.

He then outlined the cost per person of COVID -19 as three dollars and stated that by March if all things been equal, the vaccine would be out for use.

Ms Delese  Mimi Darko, CEO of  Food and Drugs Authority said the vaccine has been tested and and approved, adding that it will help minimize the spread of the pandemic.

She also disclosed that her outfit was working with stakeholders for the safety of the public .

Dr. Yaw Bediako, an Immunologist and a Research Fellow of the West Africa Center for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens of the University of Ghana, urged Ghanaians to reject claims that the vaccines are harmful.

He further  urged Ghanaians to have faith in the vaccines, adding that they will save lives .
