The Ghana Football Association has appointed Swedish performance analyst James Slaughter as the new Video Analyst for the Black Queens as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Slaughter, who is from Malmö, Sweden, joins the Black Queens after serving with Malmö FF, one of Sweden’s most successful football clubs.
According to the Ghana Football Association, Slaughter began his career in performance analysis at the age of 16 by recording matches before progressing through the ranks to become the club’s Head of Performance Analysis.
Speaking after his appointment, Slaughter described the opportunity to work with Ghana as a privilege.
“I love working in football and being part of a team. Representing a country, especially a beautiful country like Ghana, is one of the biggest honours you can have,” he said.
He added that former colleagues who had previously worked with Ghana’s national teams spoke highly of the country’s football culture, encouraging him to take up the role.
As Video Analyst, Slaughter will be responsible for recording training sessions and matches, assisting the coaching staff in reviewing performances, identifying areas for improvement and analysing opponents ahead of games.
“I help the coaches pick out important clips and situations so we can improve the players, while also studying our opponents to understand their strengths and weaknesses,” he explained.
Slaughter will work closely with Head Coach Kim Lars Björkegren and assistant coach and performance analyst Ronny as part of the team’s technical staff.
According to him, video analysis plays an important role in helping teams gain small advantages that can influence the outcome of closely contested matches.
“In football, the margins are very small. Video analysis is about finding that extra two or three percent that can make the difference. Ultimately, though, it’s the players who win the games,” he said.
Looking ahead to WAFCON 2026, Slaughter acknowledged that analysing less familiar opponents, including Cape Verde, presents unique challenges but described it as an exciting aspect of his work.
He also pledged his commitment to helping the Black Queens achieve a successful campaign.
“We’ll work until the very last percent. We’ll work day and night to make the people of Ghana proud and create good results and unforgettable memories,” he said.
The appointment forms part of the Black Queens’ preparations for a strong performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
