Ghana Expresses Solidarity With Mali, Issues Advisory After Deadly Attacks

The Government of Ghana has expressed solidarity with Mali following a series of deadly terrorist attacks that have heightened security concerns in the Sahel region.

In a statement issued on April 27, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana said it was deeply concerned about the escalating situation, particularly coordinated attacks carried out on April 25 in multiple locations, including the capital, Bamako.

The attacks reportedly resulted in the death of Mali’s Defence Minister, Sadio Camara, along with several military personnel and civilians.

Condolences and Call for Collective Action

Ghana extended its condolences to the government and people of Mali and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

“Violent extremism must have no place in our world, and we must step up collective efforts to end this horror,” the statement said, calling for stronger cooperation to combat terrorism across the region.

Advisory to Ghanaians

The government also issued a security advisory to Ghanaian nationals living in Mali, urging them to exercise caution and limit non-essential movement.

Citizens were advised to maintain regular contact with the Ghanaian Embassy in Bamako, while traders and drivers operating along Ghana–Mali routes were asked to suspend travel until further notice.

Ongoing Engagement

The statement noted that Ghana is working closely with Malian authorities to monitor the situation and facilitate the eventual resumption of trade activities when conditions improve.

Reaffirming its commitment, the government assured Ghanaians abroad that their safety and well-being remain a top priority, while reiterating its support for Mali during what it described as a difficult period.
