The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, has introduced the “Director-General’s Kitchen Support” initiative as part of efforts to improve nutrition and feeding conditions within the country’s prisons.
The initiative is an agricultural-based intervention aimed at supporting food production and enhancing the quality of meals provided to inmates across correctional facilities.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka TV’s Flagship morning show with Ama Gyenfa, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, Superintendent Nanavi Solomon, highlighted ongoing reforms and opportunities available within the prison system.

According to him, the Prisons Service is focused on rehabilitation, empowerment, and reintegration through its “Think Prison, Think 360” initiative.
“There are many opportunities in Ghana prisons. Inmates are given the chance to pursue master’s degrees and learn new skills as part of the ‘Think Prison, Think 360’ initiative,” he stated.
Superintendent Nanavi Solomon explained that the initiative seeks to transform prisons into centres of correction, education, and skills development rather than mere detention facilities.
He noted that inmates are being encouraged to pursue academic advancement, vocational training, and other self-improvement programmes to better prepare them for life after incarceration.
The Ghana Prisons Service says the introduction of agricultural support systems and educational opportunities forms part of broader efforts to improve inmate welfare and reduce recidivism through rehabilitation and empowerment.
