Ghanacard:"Be receptive to Minority’s concerns”– Kufour tells NIA

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has asked the National Identification Authority (NIA) to be receptive to concerns t raised by the Minority in Parliament over the Ghanacard.

The Minority in Parliament had earlier issued statements and reportedly refused to partake in the registration of Members of Parliament (MP) for the national ID cards raising legal, procurement and cost concerns.

They argue that the NIA has not been honest with Ghanaians over the cost of the project as well as the requirement one needs to acquire the Ghana Card.

Speaking to Atinka FM’s Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Thursday, Mr. Kufour mentioned that, although he is not in support of a boycott on the issuance of the Ghana card, he believes that genuine concerns have been raised with regards to the documents needed to register for the card.

He added that if Ghanaians elect leaders with the voters' ID card then, they should be able to use the same ID cards to register for the Ghana Card.

“This, however, does not mean that there should be a boycott of the exercise. I do not support that,” he said.
