The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has commended President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the media, Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Ghanaians for the successful nationwide clean-up exercise held on July 10 and 11 following the recent floods that affected seven regions.

In a statement signed by GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the Association described the two-day exercise as timely and necessary, saying it helped mobilise citizens, institutions and communities to restore environmental cleanliness after the floods, which claimed lives, displaced families and destroyed homes and infrastructure.

The GJA also praised President Mahama for personally taking part in the exercise, describing his participation as a demonstration of leadership that inspired many citizens to volunteer.

The Association further applauded the Ministry of Local Government, Regional Coordinating Councils, sanitation agencies, traditional authorities, security services, civil society organisations and community volunteers for their collective efforts. It also commended journalists and media organisations for educating the public, providing extensive coverage and encouraging participation throughout the exercise.

The GJA also recognised Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Jospong Group for deploying sanitation workers, trucks and heavy-duty equipment to support the clean-up campaign.

While celebrating the success of the exercise, the Association urged Ghanaians to make cleanliness a daily habit by properly disposing of waste, keeping drains free of refuse and supporting efforts to prevent future flooding and protect the environment.
